Pay Grade:  56- Starts at $15.86 per hour

 

"Must" ALSO complete a BUS DRIVER APPLICATION (Position#540001) before you will be considered for employment in a Teacher Assistant position. 

Driving a school bus is an essential function of this job. 

"Must" provide an Official Seal Transcript showing at least 48 SEMESTER HOURS from a Community College or a Four Year University.

Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver

Exceptional Children Department

 

General Statement of Job:

      An Instructional Teacher Assistant in the Exceptional Children’s Department must be committed to serving our neediest students with a wide range of disabilities and special needs including all aspects of student access to their educational environment.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Assist in the educational development of pupils under the direction of the EC teacher.
  2. Assist in the monitoring of Individual Education Programs for students progress. 
  1.   Provide support for individual students inside and outside the   

       classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities. 

  1. Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists, regular education and special education teachers. 
  2. Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student data records.
  1. Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of the EC teacher.
  2. Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning.
  3. Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress. 
  4. Assist the EC teacher to ensure that all instructional materials and equipment are available.
  5. Coordinate with other professionals to utilize instructional aids and equipment.
  6. Coordinate with nursing staff to provide student support through personal care needs in order for them to fully access the educational environment.
  7. Utilize Behavior Intervention and Crisis Prevention training to de-escalate and intervene for students with behavioral difficulties.
  8. Other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Exceptional Children in the provision of student service provision.

 

Additional Job Functions or Assigned Tasks:

  1. Obtain and maintain a bus license.
  2. Supervise EC students in all settings of the school environment.
  3. Attend trainings and staff development as determined appropriate by the principal and EC Director.
  4. Serve as a monitor for significantly needy students in transition and transport.



Minimum Training and Experience:

  • High School diploma and a minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework is required.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required.

  3. Professionalism conducive to the educational environment
