PRE-K TEACHER ASSISTANT
Job Description
General Statement of Job:
To perform a variety of tasks in order to support the efforts of the Lead Teacher, to meet the needs of all students, and to ensure the provision of quality instruction for all students.
Reports to Principal, Preschool Coordinator and/or Lead Teacher.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
- Monitor the safety and well-being of students, develop self-esteem of students, and encourage students to become increasingly independent
- Monitor children's behaviors and deescalate inappropriate behaviors using redirection and other developmentally-appropriate techniques; employs strategies to protect students from injury
- Assist and supplement planned activities; supervise activity centers; provide individual assistance with independent projects
- Maintain a safe indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play
- Perform general housekeeping duties in maintaining a clean, orderly classroom
- Maintain staff/child ratio and visual supervision of children at all times
- Assist children with personal and self-help needs when necessary
- Promote proper handwashing techniques; clean and sanitize classroom equipment and materials Distribute morning and mid-day meals, prepare afternoon snack
- Accompany students to and from the bus: guide students to and from classrooms Comply at all times with applicable NC Child Care Regulations, NC Sanitation Guidelines, NC Fire and Building Codes, and Lenoir County Public Schools Standards
- Report all complaints of child abuse, neglect, or improper care to supervisor
- Maintain positive communication with co-workers to create a professional atmosphere
- Follow a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth
- Carry out non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as needed
Additional Job Functions or Assigned Tasks:
- Participate in staff development workshops . Perform other related work as required
Minimum Training and Experience:
- High school diploma and a minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework required
- Associates in Early Childhood Education preferred
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in a recognized early childhood environment or licensed child care facility preferred
- CPR/1st Aid Certification Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to perform Essential Job Functions:
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move approximately 40lbs.
- Frequent stooping, bending, and kneeling are required. Requires the ability to move quickly in a fast paced environment.
