Bus Driver- Transportation Department
Job Description
General Statement of Job: Provide safe and efficient transportation for students to and from school. Reports to the Transportation Director and Principal of school.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain proficiency in driving skills
- Maintain record of bus route, roster of student names and addresses
- Ensure care and safety of students boarding, riding, and departing bus
- Maintain high standard of student conduct at all times Pick up and discharge students only at authorized school or bus stop locations
- Transport only authorized students
- Report infractions of bus safety rules to the principal or designee
- Obey all bus regulations and traffic laws while operating bus
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complies with standards of bus cleanliness
- Operate the bus on the assigned route(s) and schedule as provided by the Transportation Department
- Attend bus safety meetings Inform TIMS Manager or Transportation Specialist of any students added or deleted from route which may necessitate a change in route or bus stop
- Accept responsibility for securing bus before leaving the vehicle at the conclusion of a run or route
- Responsible for reporting any observable mechanical defects or failures on the bus
- Maintain acceptable relations with parents/guardians of students transported and with school personnel
Other duties as assigned by Transportation Director
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Three days in class training
- Three days on-the-road training with instructor
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required To Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years old with six (6) months driving experience
- Must possess and maintain a current North Carolina commercial driver's license with and “S” restriction or a “p” endorsement
- Must possess and maintain a current Bus Drivers Pocket Card
- Must pass a DOT drug and alcohol test.
- Must be able to exert 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Must be able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch
- Must be able to work in various inside and outside environments when subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions
- Must be able to hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
- Must be able to work safely in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment. • • Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions
