MTSS/504 Coordinator
Job Description
General Statement of Job: The Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)/504 Coordinator provides training, consultation, and support to administrators, teachers, and school-based leadership teams and school staff. The Coordinator will facilitate implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and 504 at the district and school levels. Assist with MTSS/504 activities including observation and feedback, modeling, interpreting data and other supportive assistance necessary to implement a Multi-Tiered System of Support. The position provides support and manages student 504 plans. This entails facilitating evaluation/eligibility determination for 504 plans, developing 504 plans, and monitoring the implementation of Section 504 procedures in NC in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research, identify and train site-based teams in universal screening instruments to identity students in need of additional assessment and/or support
- Highly knowledgeable of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support program (PBIS)
- Knowledge of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
- Understand K-12 testing, data, and assessments including, but not limited to, MAPS, CogAt, EOGs, EOCs, Check-ins, Benchmarks, and all other common formative assessments across the district and state
- Conduct trainings for Kindergarten Literacy Assessments (KEA)
- Work collaboratively with the Districts’ Curriculum Department
- Advanced Professional knowledge of MTSS process and all components
- Ongoing Professional Development in the field of MTSS and 504.
- Understanding of Tier Levels and distinctions
- Basic understanding of Exceptional Children (EC) process and types of disabilities
- Monitors the fidelity of implementation of MTSS at the school level including academic, attendance, and behavior support systems.
- Monitors process to ensure compliance and adherence to district procedures, state guidelines, and federal regulations.
- Encourages and models skillful use of data to inform decision making.
- Maintains cooperative working relationships with parents, staff, and other district personnel.
- Knowledge of requirements for referral to PCS (Speech and Academics)
- Ability to hold meetings and trainings at school and district levels
- K-12 Curriculum knowledge
- Exhibits organizational, interpersonal, and team building skills
- Utilizes multiple service delivery methods and researched-based interventions
- Meet with school based MTSS Teams on a regular scheduled basis
- Provides ongoing training and support to district regarding Section 504 and the implementation of Section 504 procedures.
- Provides District-wide Assessment Literacy staff development for site-based leadership teams
- Ensures a system of student progress monitoring is current and recorded with fidelity
- Develop, write and help implement 504 plans
- Coordinates 504 referral process
- Schedules and facilitates evaluation/eligibility determination team meetings for Section 504
- Participate in the school’s Student Support team (MTSS); helps teachers and MTSS school contacts develop and implement program goals and interventions for struggling learners who may be eligible for a 504 plan and/or educational services
- Attends professional development and trainings for MTSS and 504
- Trained in ECATS/Monitor MTSS forms
- Other duties assigned
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Hold a valid North Carolina teacher license
- 5 years of successful teaching experience
- MSA degree: Master of School Administration preferred
- Skills in interpretation of K-12 data
- Knowledge of KEA Assessments
- Knowledge of 504 and MTSS Process
- Training in MTSS or equivalent experience
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Knowledge of K-12 curriculum and various effective professional development programs
- Navigate, enter data, and produce reports within MTSS and 504
- Effectively communicate knowledge and skills to other certified staff
- Effective management skills, sets priorities, and evaluate progress towards outcomes
- Interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with individuals and groups
- Experience in writing 504 Eligibility and Accommodation Plans
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Willingness to travel within the county as needed from school to school
- Strong organizational and technology skills
- Knowledge of and ability to articulate and achieve alignment around the goals, objectives, and outcomes for the MTSS program.
- Ability to work collaboratively and to contribute as a team player
- Self-motivated to work independently when necessary
- Excellent consultation and coaching skills
- Maintain confidentiality
